Believe, Achieve, Succeed

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2.

The Year 2 team this year consists of Miss King, Miss Partridge, Mrs Melling and Mrs Wiggin. Please see our latest year group newsletter here.

Our aim for this year is for the children to be happy, have fun and most importantly build on their knowledge and skills that they learnt in Year 1 and help to fill gaps within their knowledge.

We want the children to feel safe and secure when they come to school which will boost their confidence and see them taking risks in lessons, attempting challenges and persevering when they don’t get it right the first time. We want to build up their resilience in Year 2 and ensure children don’t give up at the first hurdle. We want all children to achieve and succeed on their Year 2 journey!

This year we will be visiting lots of new topics which we hope the children will enjoy! We will link learning and skills from other subjects into our topic, so the children gain a greater in-depth understanding. We will start each topic with a ‘Wow’ day to entice and engage the children and make them curious about each topic. We will also send topic and science homework out each half term. This will look different from other years as it covers different subjects and projects on one sheet so children can pick and choose which they would like to complete! We look forward to seeing their finished projects and will display these in the classroom for everyone to see. Weekly Maths and English homework will be uploaded onto Microsoft Teams; this will require you to log in with your personal logon so that you can access the homework.

In Year 2, we will continue to send home a reading book, reading record, phonics book and spellings each week. It is important that you hear your child read at home and to help them practise their spellings so that they become more confident with their reading and writing. Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to take our half termly trips to Bartley Green Library so it is important for children to read their own books at home to promote a love of reading. Children will have access to book review sheets so that they can review books they read for enjoyment. If children return these to their class teacher, their book review will be displayed in the class library for other children to see.

We would just like finish by saying thank you so much for all your continued support and we hope the children have a happy and successful year!

We have so much fun in Year 2!
