School Council

At St Michael's we are proud to have pupil representatives that take part in School Council meetings.  Our School Council is in place so that pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about the school that affect them.  Through School Council all pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates in reaching a democratic solution.  Wider issues that arise at School are discussed further at School Council meetings; this ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard.  Pupils at St Michael's know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter. This academic year we will be continuing our endeavour to improve attendance by hosting our attendance extravaganza and we will also be working on several other important agendas throughout the year.  Watch this space as we will keep you updated on our achievements and projects throughout the year.

Our School Council aims to ensure our children have:

  • A safe, happy, and fair learning environment that children can enjoy and flourish in.
  • A forum to voice their concerns and act upon them
  • A structured opportunity to learn problem-solving skills
  • An opportunity to take an active role in the organisation of the school
  • An opportunity to experience a democratic process

Reflections on Last Year

Our agenda for this year was to boost the attendance of children at St Michael’s. Our School Council representatives decided that they would like to develop our end of year attendance assembly to make a statement that will last for years to come.

‘As a group we decided that we wanted to help improve the attendance of children at our school as we all know that this has been affected by COVID. As children we know sometimes how hard it is to come to school when you are tired or feeling a little bit unwell, so we wanted to create an attendance assembly that blew all other attendance assemblies out of the water. We wanted to make it a big occasion for all children and that’s exactly what it was. With the help of Mrs Brazier who leads the School Council team and Miss Cockell who is our Attendance Officer we were able to carry out a successful attendance extravaganza that had our favourite songs playing, brand new certificates and badges and even a photo booth for parents and children with props created by ourselves.’  2021-2022 School Council Representatives
